Yoga: (yo·ga). A Hindu discipline aimed at training the consciousness for a state of perfect spiritual insight and tranquillity.

Yoga beautifully knits together the disparate aspects of my life. One of the reasons I came to the mat was because I had exhausted traditional (or attractive) medical remedies for a lifelong back challenge. Yoga helped by allowing me to help myself. One of the reasons I teach is to empower others to overcome their own challenges.

Western minds often assume the only benefits of yoga are the physical rewards. And while balance, strength, and flexibility are part of the yoga experience, I encourage students to go past the body’s physical layers in an effort to connect with the authentic self. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin reminds us that, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings have a human experience.” Yoga is a pathway between the human and the spirit; my job is to point the way.

Yoga classes will resume in Winter, 2016. That doesn't mean we stop stretching, y'all!
